Knockout City Community Tournament Guidelines

At Velan Studios, we want to encourage the growth of Knockout City community events, so we’ve developed a set of Community Event Guidelines to help provide some framework for anyone interested in running events featuring our game. The goal here is to give the community room to evolve and expand the competitive scene, while still retaining the rights we need to as the developers of the game.

If your event is within the guidelines that follow, you don’t need any other approval from Velan Studios to run your event! If there’s anything outside of these guidelines, or you have any other questions, email us at communityevents@velanstudios.com.

  • Focus on Community, Not Profit – Knockout City is a community-focused game, and any community-run tournaments and events should be too. You can offset the costs of running an event through sponsorships, and charging an entry fee to a venue is allowed, but players can’t be charged to participate in your event. Regardless of your costs, you can’t run an event where you expect to generate more than $10,000 USD in revenue. Prize pools for your events can’t exceed $10,000 USD in a calendar year.
  • Follow the Law – You’re responsible for ensuring you comply with all laws and regulations applicable to your event.
  • Events Aren’t Endorsements – You need to be clear that your event is not sponsored, endorsed, approved by, or affiliated with Velan Studios or Knockout City. You can’t use the Velan Studios or Knockout City logos or artwork to promote your tournament. Include “This event is not affiliated with or sponsored by Velan Studios” prominently in your event materials, websites, and rules.
  • Follow the Rules – You, your tournament, and all participants in your event need to follow the Velan Studios User Agreement, viewable in-game under the “More…” option in the Main Menu.
  • Organize Your Event and Your Prizes – Your event organizers are responsible for distributing all prizes, prize payouts, and other giveaways for your event.
  • Keep Things on the Up and Up – You’re responsible for ensuring competitive integrity in your events, and keeping all aspects of your tournaments fair, positively representing the Knockout City community.
  • No Gambling Allowed – There can be no gambling or wagering of any kind at or on a Knockout City event or tournament.
  • Appropriate Sponsorships and Promotion Only – Knockout City is rated E10+ by the ESRB and PEGI 7. Your event can’t be sponsored by or promote companies that would not be appropriate for these age groups, including sexually explicit materials, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, weapons, tattoos, gambling, political ads, or other media that would not be appropriate for this age group (e.g. R-rated movies, or M-rated games).
  • Online Streaming Only – You can stream your tournament online, but you’re not allowed to broadcast on TV. For livestreams, you’re responsible for moderating live chat, and you need to make an effort to keep chat appropriate for the Knockout City audience. You can’t charge people to watch your event, whether it’s live or through VODs.

We may update these guidelines over time to continue representing our goals and roadmap for the Knockout City competitive community.
